Leipzig (red) - World Bank, VNG-Verbundnetz Gas AG and Stadtwerke Leipzig GmbH arrange the 2. International Congress "Restructuring the Energy Sector in Transition Countries - Opening Markets and Sustainable Development", which takes place in Leipzig on April 26-28, 2004.

2004 sees the expansion of the European Union by 10 new member states, with Rumania and Bulgaria preparing their economies for future integration. These changes bring a new dimension to the European Union, especially in their relevant energy and environment sectors. The second international congress will accommodate these themes and build upon the discussions of the first congress, which were shared by over 600 delegates in April 2003. The second congress will concentrate on the following topics: Energy Market Integration of the new EU member states, Private-Public-Partnerships in the Energy sector in Eastern Europe, Natural Gas Strategies, Renewable Energy, Financing Economy Measures and the Development of National and Regional Energy Policies.

Among the speakers are: Erhard Busek (Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe, Belgium), Marek Flotynowicz (PGNiG, Poland), Klaus-Ewald Holst (VNG-Verbundnetz Gas AG, Germany), Frannie Leautier (The World Bank Institute, USA), Tomas Novotny (Ministry of the Environment, Czech Republic), Hasan Ozkoc (Energy Market Regulatory Authority, Turkey), Peter Travnicek (SAP AG, Germany), Wolfgang Wille (Stadtwerke Leipzig GmbH, Germany) and James D. Wolfensohn (The World Bank, USA).
